Vote for President-Elect
|
We have two candidates for the position of President-elect. To be eligible for nomination, the candidate must be an ISOES member in good standing for at least two years (see current membership list on our Web site: ISOES.org), as well as having served in an elected capacity in the Executive Council for at least one year. A waiting period of two years is mandatory before an officer may seek re-election to the same office.
The President-Elect is responsible for elections of new officers and for organizing the Awards Committee. After serving one year as President-Elect he or she will take over as President for one year and subsequently serve as Past-President for one year. Nominated: Dr. Dutta has closely worked with over 30 industries in North America and India on research projects and consulting assignments related to industrial ergonomics, lean manufacturing, materials handling systems design, management of technology and green engineering. He has published over 100 papers in peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings, and has contributed book chapters to four different encyclopedia on Industrial Engineering, Production Systems Design, Manufacturing Systems and Foundry Modernization. He is currently on the editorial board of Occupational Ergonomics (the official publication of ISOES) and the International Journal of Industrial Engineering - Applications and Practice, and has served on the editorial board of other journals. He has supervised 20 Ph.D. and M.A.Sc. students to date and has held research grants in excess of 200,000 Canadian dollars. He has hosted the 1999 Symposium of the Lucien Brouha Society, and has been involved in planning and organizing seminars and conferences in North America and South East Asia. One of the projects in which he is currently involved is Transportability of ergonomic standards and guidelines from North America to developing countries. He is the co-ordinator of an international research team from Canada, U.S.A., France, Japan and India which is examining the physiological, bio-mechanical and anthropometric aspects of this issue. The team will be preparing action plans which can be used to specify ISO guidelines on health, safety and quality in conjunction with the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Geneva. He is also working with automotive parts manufacturing companies in South Western Ontario on developing a cost based assessment index for ergonomic risk, which will be integrated with product design and process planning as a part of Concurrent Engineering. He is an advisor to the design of a graduate program on Safety and Environmental Management for management personnel in developing countries, offered by the National Institute of Industrial Engineering in Bombay, India. Having been associated with ISOES since its inception, Dr. Dutta feels that the Society must revitalize its roots. ISOES is uniquely positioned to play a key role in transferring research findings from academia into the realms of the practitioner. Its constitution is epitomized by the adage - Theory without Practice is futile, and Practice without Theory is puerile. The annual conferences of the Society have so far successfully met these expectations, by encouraging active participation from all levels of the industrial and service sectors. Lately, however, the pace of interaction has slowed down. It should be the prime duty of the new incumbent to reverse the slide, and seek strategic alliances with other professional organizations to further the goals set out in our constitution. Bahador Ghahramani, Ph.D., P.E., CPE Dr. Bahador Ghahramani is an Associate Professor in the Engineering Management Department, School of Engineering at the University of Missouri-Rolla (UMR). Prior to joining UMR he was a Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff (DMTS) at AT&T-Bell Laboratories, and the AT&T Corporate Ergonomist for more than two years. He has been a proactive member of the ISEOS for more than ten years and was a member of the Executive Council for four years. During his tenure in industry he awarded two AT&T Distinguished Awards to Dr. M. M. Ayoub (Texas Tech) and Dr. J. J. Congleton (Texas A&M) for their outstanding achievements in industry and academia. Dr. Ghahramani is a member of Whos Who in America and Whos Who in Finance and Industry. His work experience covers several years in academia, industry, and consulting. He has extensive R&D experience in Ergonomics and Human Factors Engineering, Industrial Ecology, and Man-Machine Systems. Dr. Ghahramani has presented and published numerous papers and has been an active participant and an officer in several national and international organizations and honor societies. He holds three patents the Eye Depth Testing Apparatus, A Method for Measuring the Usability of a System, and A Method for Measuring the Usability of a System and for Task Analysis and Re-engineering. He has also applied for and maintains copyrights on five other AT&T designs and has filed another patent Emergency Marker System, Marker Device, Components Therefore, and Methods of Making the Same. Dr. Ghahramani received his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Louisiana Tech University, MBA from Louisiana State University, MS in Industrial Engineering from Texas Tech University, MS in Applied Mathematics from Southern University, and BS in Industrial Engineering from Oklahoma State University. Please vote by July 28, either by mail, fax or email. |
